7 proven tricks to calm a fussy baby at night

When it comes to ​how to calm a fussy baby at night, there isn’t any standard solution.

Keep track of food: Track feeding times. Looking for hunger signs such as lip-smacking or ­moving fists towards mouth show that the baby is hungry.

Diaper: You should check the diaper. During the first few months, babies wet their diapers a lot.

Temperature:  You should check your baby’s temperature regularly.

Keep him busy: Sing a song to your baby or go for a walk so that the little one doesn’t get bored.

How to Calm a Fussy Baby at night?

Following are some ways you can try to comfort a crying baby. It takes a few tries. With patience and practice,  you’ll find out how to calm a fussy baby at night.

  1. Do not overfeed your baby. Th may make her uncomfortable. You should wait for at least 2 hours in between.
  2. Swaddle your baby in a large, thin blanket so that baby feels secure.
  3. Try some calming sound. Babies like the sounds which remind them of being inside the womb.  Sounds such as a white noise device or the recording of a heartbeat are helpful.
  4. To calm a fussy baby at night, hold her in your arms. Place her body on her left side.  It helps digestion. Try to rub her back gently. If your baby sleeps, lay her down in crib on her back.
  5. If you are not feeding the baby or it is not the right time to feed, offer the pacifier. You can also help your baby to find her thumb or finger. Babies are often calmed by sucking but do not make it her habit.
  6. Limit daytime nap to 3 hours/day.
  7. Keeping a diary can help you calm a fussy baby at night. You should keep the record when your baby is awake, asleep, crying, and eating.

You deserve a break from fussy baby at night

If nothing seems to work despite your tries,  you need a break. It can be tough to handle, and it can make you physically tired and mentally exhausted. Here are some tricks if nothing works for you.

  1. Take a deep breath. Count to 10.
  2. Place your baby in a safe place.  Leave the room immediately, and let the baby cry for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Listen to music for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Call your partner for ­emotional support.
  5. When you think you have calmed down, go back and retry soothing measures.
  6. If nothing works, call your child’s doctor. The baby may need a medical check-up.
  7.  It is normal to feel upset, frustrated, and sometimes angry too. But you need to keep your behavior under control. It is never safe to shake, throw, or jerk any child. It will never solve the problem.
